Enira, Bessa Valley, Bulgaria, 2014 - October 2018 Wine of the Month

Updated: Mar 29, 2020

Now that the winter is coming and the stew pots are brewing, we present to you an opulent Bulgarian red which is very well balanced with a long memorable finish.

About the producer:

Producer Count Stephan von Neipperg, owner of several famous Bordeaux properties, including Châteaux Canon La Gaffelière and La Mondotte, sought out the Bessa Valley where wonderful clay-limestone soils showed him the potential to make great wines.

In the shadow of the dramatic Rhodope Mountains, these soils provide the structure, strength and minerality which produce wonderful wines that are full of power and elegance.

The Bessa Valley is located on the hills between the Rhodope Mountains and Maritsa River, where the climate is continental – hot in the summer and cold in the winter. The estate consists of 140 hectares of vines which include Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

About the wine:

Enira is a big, robust Bulgarian red made in a very opulent Bordeaux style by master winemakers. Consisting of 48% Syrah, 31% Merlot, 19% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine is aged in French oak for 12 months.

This wine shows a deep purple colour whilst the nose explodes with vanilla and menthol aromas, followed by blackberry and raspberry strong nuances. This hearty wine is a sumptuous accompaniment to roast beef or game.
