Following on from last month’s ‘Wine of the Month’ where we featured a stunning Prosecco Millesimato from Borga, we’d like to introduce you to another superb wine from this north-eastern Italian vineyard – Borga Cabernet Sauvignon. As our thoughts turn to autumn and the evenings start to draw in, this wine is the perfect accompaniment to some good hearty comfort dishes!
About the Producer -
Family Borga was formed in 1940 when patriarch Antonio Borga began his first wine production starting with a small piece of land. His passion for his vineyard and its products was inherited by his children who, in 1960, founded Azienda Vitivinicola Borga and started to produce wine of a larger commercial scale.
50 years later, the brand Borga, still remains a strong family business, which is recognised throughout Italy and in Europe. The company processes the grapes from 50 hectares, of which 25 are owned and the remaining are owned by agricultural producers. The vineyards are located in the Marca Trevigiana area, north-east of Venice in northern Italy.
About the Wine-
Borga Cabernet Sauvignon is produced in Cessalto, in the Provence of Treviso. The vines are grown in clay soils, which are famous for producing some of the boldest red wines in the world. As clay soils tend to stay cooler and retain more water, they produce muscular wines with high extract and colour.
This excellent full-bodied wine is a ruby red transparent colour with deep purple reflections. On the nose there are notes of dark red fruits, blackcurrants and plums, along with light herbaceous and peppery notes. On the palate, this wine is fresh with some tannings.
Borga Cabernet Sauvignon pairs perfectly with dishes such as braised beef, simple meatballs, venison, and lamb dishes.
